Morning sun had me up and around around 5:30.  It would be a fun day.  I decided that rather than taking the road route to Fort Fisher I would do the ferry out of Southport.  The route was easy since NC-211 runs from Lake Waccamaw to Southport, around 50 miles.  It was a beautiful ride through wooded countryside until crossing NC-17.  At that point it appears that a second 2 lane parallel road is being built into Southport.  It was about 3 feet higher than the old road.  I guess they could be building a 4 lane.  Sadly this would promote more commercial development in what is a beautiful old sea town.

The ferry was right on time and there was a light breeze.  I love taking the ferries.  The bigger ones tend to have food service and air conditioned waiting rooms.  This was a small ferry.  It was only a 40 minute sail to Fort Fisher and it brought back a bunch of memories from Mom taking the 4 boys to the beach and taking a ferry to the Outer Banks.

The sailing was smooth but I still stayed with the bike to make sure that a random wave didn't create enough movement to topple the bike.

The kids had a great time feeding the Sea Gulls by holding up the food and having them snatch it or by throwing it up in the air and the birds would catch it in mid-air.

I followed the signs to Fort Fisher and after perhaps a 1/2 mile walk to the Visitors Center I found out that I was at the wrong Fort Fisher.

This was the museum and they don't stamp Passport Books.  I had to backtrack to the Aquarium and that is where the Recreation Center to get my stamp.  I wasn't going to leave here without it.  Mission completed and I am off to the next park.
