Yesterday was a beautiful day to visit some parks. 60 degrees, light winds and clear. I started off at Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area in Hillsborough. This is the perfect place to plan a 2-3 hour picnic. If you are passing by, a great place to stop and pick up lunch at Weavers Street Market then ride 1-2 miles to the Park. Two large ponds for fishing and 4 trails. Park benches dot the trails and banks of the ponds.

In order to get a stamp for Occoneechee Mountain you have to go over to Eno River which is a staffed site. It's a short ride and very pretty. The Eno wonders for 33 miles until it joins the Flat River and then the Neuse River. The Park runs along the river with paved walking trails and easy parking and access. The stream is also easily accessed by fishermen. Great for a picnic or evening stroll. The park has primitive backcountry camping requiring carry-in and out camping.
Falls Lake State Recreation Area
This was my last stop yesterday. This park could be a multiple day destination with significant facilities. I have biked (no-motor) some of the trails. There are also 25 miles of hiking. It is sprawling with multiple access points. This, to me, is a boaters destination with the lake being the main feature. Still, day-tripers would need multiple days to see all of the park. Sorry, no picture.
This likely wraps up my day trips to the parks.
The remaining sites in the Parks Passport will be multiple day overnight trips covering most of NC. I am looking forward to it.
